“I think the people hoping for a lesbian princess need to be reminded that Disney movies are aimed at kids. I don’t think there is anything wrong with being gay, but to push the idea at kids before they understand what that means will only confuse them. Also as a parent, I would be pissed at Disney for addressing such controversial topics in a movie intended for children”.

In Disney movies we’ve seen witchcraft, arranged marriages, women being poisoned, chased, forced to act as slaves (Cinderella anyone?), abused verbally and emotionally by their peers and families, we’ve seen them locked up in towers, persecuted for a variety of reasons, kidnapped, traded and essentially sold to the highest bidder.  In Disney movies we’re basically told from an early age that real women wait for their princes, do as their told, allow themselves to be used as property by their families, and that their primary purpose is to wait for a handsome prince to come and sweep them off their feet.
Plenty of Disney movies have controversial content.  But it’s the loving, respectful relationship between 2 women that’s going to push things over the edge?
Get. Fucking. Real.
You know the people on the planet who seem the LEAST confused by homosexual relationships?  Kids.  Why?  Because to a kid… two adults in love is just two adults in love.  You have to TEACH hatred and bigotry.  If you don’t… you end up with children who accept love for what it is— love.
Our children will not be confused… YOUR children may be.  But maybe the problem there isn’t a nice little Disney story about two women who fall in love… maybe the problem is you.

Not gonna lie, I actually think a lesbian princess (or a gay prince) would be a really good topic for Disney to address. It’d kind of be a way to introduce the LGBT community into the mainstream world and open everyone’s eyes that yes, gay people exist.
I mean we already know that they exist, but er, you know what I mean.
Disney’s already addressed several different cultures in their movies, and taught so many lessons about it being okay to be who you are as an individual. Mulan was a girl and saved all of China, for example. If done the right way, it could send a really positive message that it’s okay to love who you love, too.
I don’t see why different sexualities should be pushed onto the back burner. Maybe not now, right this second, but who knows? It could happen. And I think it’d be a huge positive. Cuz we know a lot of parents don’t feel comfortable discussing homosexuality, or transgenderism, or any of those other big scary words, to their kids. So maybe a Disney film would be a good place to go for that.

I just think disney’s too afraid of legal issues and getting into that moral grey area with the conservative parents who WON’T let their kids watch them. Financially, there are too many people who wouldn’t go to see it, and it would be a huge waste of money for disney to make it.
Now Dreamworks, however………
Dreamworks WILL do it, and do it first. I’m positive of it.

Guys, we’re not gonna see an LGBT character in a Disney movie for a LONG time…look how long it took for them to make Tiana- 50 years after the civil rights movement took place.
I’d like to see a lesbian princess or a gay prince just as much as anyone else, but be realistic. It’ll be a while. Even for Dreamworks, and yeah they probably will do it first…it’ll take them some time. I wouldn’t expect to see one for at least twenty years- possibly 30.

Disney is a company guys, they have to make money, and for a while, they weren’t making any hits (early 2000s, they had Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Brother Bear, etc., none of which did so well at the box office) so they have to be careful to be sure they can make money. And speaking of Treasure Planet, two of the aliens, Amelia and Doppler, had children, only in the original script it was Doppler, the male alien who had the kids. This had to be removed from the movie, because they were afraid of the backlash they’d get for having a male pregnancy. And that was a heterosexual couple in a sci fi movie. If that was too much of a risk, then a lesbian princess would be even more of a risk. Disney already is in hot water from backlash from “Family” groups for having Hyperion publish LGBTQ themed books, giving same-sex partners of their workers benefits and for the unoffical “gay days” at the parks.
Disney would also have to put up with backlash from LGBTQ groups if they were upset about the portrayal.
Dreamworks will probably do it sooner (I read somewhere that Tulio and Miguel actually were a couple in the original script of El Dorado, but they had to remove it so they could get a PG rating though an implied heterosexual blow job was okay?!) and tbh, I like Dreamworks more than Disney (though they’re not really into the Fairytale movies as much. Except fro Sherk oh gosh why.So we could get an LGBTQ character from them, just not a princess.)
It sucks, I’m not a fan of how this works, but at the same time, it’s sort of the way companies work.
by the way AWESOME CHOICE OF GRAPHIC.
